You may get to the point where you are ready to write a personal statement but you don't know where to begin. You're stumped. You have writer's block. It's important to recognize a few places where this 'writer's block' comes from. Oftentimes, you have writer's block because you have an idea of how perfect the finished product will be, and that ends up paralyzing you because you have no idea how to get there.
Another reason you might have writer's block is because you are procrastinating. If you procrastinate (which most of us do), you might not know the deeper reasons why. This video does a good job of addressing the core reason why we (everyone) procrastinates.

Here is what we recommend when you can't write or don't know where to begin. Write something. Write anything. Start writing about your day, or what you're thinking in that moment. The difference between a complete personal statement and one you haven't started is, quite literally, words on a page. So get started putting words on the page. Go word by word. And don't stop until you've said everything you need to say.
